The 4 Cs of Diamonds

When you talk to Kent & Company Private Jewelers we will discover alongside you what is most appropriate for your jewelry choices.

We’ll do this by talking about the jewelry with words like Cut, Color, Clarity, Carat Weight, Shape, and Certification. You have probably heard these words in commercials or your friends using them. But what do these words mean? Read on and we’ll tell you.

Kent Company Jewelry will help you make the best decision.

The list gives you the good-looking-at-a-party version. Later, when your loved one asks how you chose the jewelry, you can show them how informed you become to make them happy.

  1. Cut is the greatest thing for making sparkle and fire. Without a high cut grade even a diamond of high quality can appear boring. Cut refers to the sides of the diamond, the top sides and the bottom sides. You can have these cuts any on shape of diamond. These can be steep angles or shallow angles.

  2. Color is the tells you about quality when you’re choosing a diamond. The highest quality diamonds are colorless. If you see a diamond with a pale yellow look to it, then it’s not the highest possible quality.

  3. Clarity is the least important factor when choosing a diamond because a lot of diamonds have blemishes. These blemishes are only visible with a microscope, so they won’t affect the quality of love you’re showing to your own loved one.

  4. Carat weight means how heavy it is, not necessarily how large it is. Many people think this refers to size, but it’s really the weight of the diamond.

  5. Shape means what it sounds like. Is it round, square, or some other shape? Think of how you see the diamond from the top down. The shape you see from above is the shape of the diamond.

  6. Certification is the proof that you're getting a quality diamond without bias. Wait, this isn’t a “C” like most people remember, but we have included it here so you know you’re getting the best.
